Hi, I'm Gabby LeBeau!
Before me, there was my mom, Kim LeBeau! She started Mulberry Paint Co as Love Lettered Studios in 2018. I took over making paint in 2023 and I love it.
My favorite part of running Mulberry Paint Co is creating exclusive palettes for the Paint Club. I find creating the digital content and tutorials fun. I am more than grateful for all of the members, I love them dearly. I am thankful for everyone who supports me, financially or otherwise! You mean the world to me.
In my free time I am playing with my cat, Meow Meow, painting en Plein Air, or competing in my local chess club. You can also find me volunteering for my favorite TN State Park, Pinson Mounds. My favorite drink is coffee seconded only by a dark beer.
Paint Making
First, we need a few things to get started. Let me help you! I am no gatekeeper! To make your own watercolor paint, we need a glass (or marble) slab, a glass muller, palette knives, watercolor binder, and pigment. You will also need something to put the watercolor paint in once you are done. This can be paint pans, or something creative, like shells!
Some people make their own binder and pigment. I stay away from making my own binder because it tends to mold as it ages. I have sourced pigments from all over the world and have built up my home studio collection. If you do not wish to make your own pigment, you can find them all over the internet - they are easy to buy!
From here on out, it's easy. Just mix your binder and pigment together, using a ratio of about 1:1 binder to pigment. The less binder used, the more pigment the paint has. Now use the muller to grind all the particles into a smooth melted chocolate consistency. Scrape all the extra into the middle and continue mulling until satisfied. Scrape into a pan. And that's it! You can use it wet or let it dry before using. Happy painting!
